In 2011, Nick spent a month at the Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid — 60 participants from 34 countries inside one set of brick walls, with a faculty that included Bootsy Collins.
Bootsy didn't just lecture (though that lecture — James Brown's military discipline, the liberation of P-Funk, why Jimi Hendrix was the spark — is essential viewing). He stayed late and jammed with the participants. Out of that energy came “Ode To Bootsy,” credited to Fuck Shit Up — a crew of academy participants, with Nick on bass.
