after Kraftwerk laid down the German electronic template in 1970-72, klaus schulze + tangerine dream evolved the kosmische sound into Berlin School — long-form modular pieces (often 20+ minutes per side) built around HYPNOTIC SEQUENCER patterns. one Moog sequencer running at quarter-notes for 22 minutes + a pad swelling overhead + a slow filter sweep = a Schulze record. they invented 'ambient electronic music' before the word existed.

the Berlin School lesson: REPETITION IS THE COMPOSITION. schulze + tangerine dream records ran sequencers for 20+ minutes without changing. the LISTENER changes — your ear adapts, you start hearing details you missed, the pattern becomes a meditation. modern producers fear repetition because they think the listener will get bored. Berlin School proved the opposite: deep repetition is HYPNOTIC. if you can find a single sequence that's interesting enough, you don't need 4 verses + bridge + chorus. you need 20 minutes of the same sequence + subtle filter modulation. trust the listener.
